What is the Selection Process?
- Shortlisting: Based on normalized marks from qualifying degree (BE/BTech: up to 5th semester; MSc/MCA/MTech: all semesters or till pre-final year for final year students).
- SSB Call: Chosen candidates get intimation via email/SMS. Download your call letter from the Indian Navy portal. No changes in SSB center or examination/interview dates are allowed.
- SSB Interview: Details and format on the Indian Navy’s website.
- Medicals: Only SSB-recommended candidates are medically examined (strict standards—no relaxation or medical center change allowed).
- Merit List: Based on SSB marks; only medically fit, verified candidates (police and character check cleared) are commissioned.
Note: AC 3-tier rail fare for first-time SSB is reimburseable. Bring account/passbook copies for this purpose.
Tenure, Training & Service Terms
- Short Service Commission: Initially 10 years, extendable twice for 2 years each (max 14 years), based on service requirements, performance, and medical eligibility. No Permanent Commission.
- Rank at Induction: Sub Lieutenant
- Training: 6 weeks Naval Orientation at INA, Ezhimala, followed by further practical and professional training at naval establishments/ships across India.
- Probation: 2 years from commission or after initial training, whichever is later. May be released during probation if performance is unsatisfactory.
Only unmarried officers can join/training. If found married after induction, you’re discharged and must refund stipend and costs.
