Who Can Apply? – Eligibility Overview
- Nationality: Genuine Gurkhas residing in India (with D.M./A.D.M./Tahasildar certificate + bonafide Indian Gurkha org. certificate) or Nepal (valid Nepal citizenship)
- Gender: Male only
- Age: 18–25 years as of 1 January 2025
- Ex-Army personnel: Age relaxation as per rules
- Education: At least Class VII pass from a recognized institution
- Preference: HSC/Matric pass (marks awarded based on division)
- Physical Standards:
- Height: Min 158 cm (marks increase above 160 cm)
- Weight: Min 50 kg
- Chest: 79-84 cm (min. 5 cm expansion)
- Must be strong, fit, and healthy with no physical defect
The Selection Process
1. Physical Test & Measurement
- Run 1.6 km (marks for <4 minutes, must qualify within 6 minutes)
- 5 km cross country (within 40 minutes to qualify)
- Broad jump (3.66 m, three attempts, marks for 1st/2nd try)
- High jump (1.22 m, three attempts, marks for 1st/2nd try)
- Immediate disqualification if any stage is not qualified
2. Sports Bonus
- Hold a government-certified sports certificate? Get bonus marks for state, national, or international achievements (see pdf for marks per level & event)
3. Viva-Voce
- Qualifiers appear for a 10-mark interview
4. Exemption
- No Odia test at recruitment, but must pass Odia during service training (within 3 years)
