Every year, millions across the world wait for Jagannath Rath Yatra, one of the grandest and most spiritual festivals celebrated in Odisha. The 2025 edition promises to be just as spiritually vibrant and culturally rich, with a packed calendar of rituals and celebrations in Puri.

Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 – Complete Ritual Schedule
1. Debasnana Purnima – 11 June 2025 (Wednesday)
This is the sacred full moon day when Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra are bathed with 108 pots of sacred water in public. It marks the first phase of the Yatra and begins the Anasara period, during which the deities are kept away from public view for healing.
2. Netrotsav & Nabajouban Darshan – 19 June 2025 (Thursday)
After a 15-day rest (Anasara), the deities are believed to recover from fever. Netrotsav (Eye Ceremony) is performed, and Nabajouban Darshan offers devotees the first glimpse of the rejuvenated deities.
3. Rathajatra (Shree Gundicha Yatra) – 27 June 2025 (Friday)
This is the main event. The deities travel from the Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple in three grand chariots:
- Nandighosa (Lord Jagannath)
- Taladhwaja (Lord Balabhadra)
- Darpadalana (Goddess Subhadra)
Thousands pull the chariots amid chants, music, and celebration. It symbolizes the annual visit of Lord Jagannath to his aunt’s temple.
4. Hera Panchami – 1 July 2025 (Tuesday)
A symbolic ritual where Goddess Lakshmi expresses her displeasure at Lord Jagannath for leaving her behind. A beautifully dramatic ceremony held at Gundicha Temple.
5. Sandhya Darshan – 4 July 2025 (Friday)
A special evening darshan before the deities return. This is an emotional and spiritual moment for many pilgrims.
6. Bahuda Jatra (Return Journey) – 5 July 2025 (Saturday)
The deities return from Gundicha Temple to the main Jagannath Temple. This marks the journey back home and is as grand as the original Yatra.
7. Suna Besha (Golden Attire) – 6 July 2025 (Sunday)
One of the most majestic events! The deities are adorned with gold ornaments while seated on their chariots at the Singhadwara. Lakhs gather to witness this divine form.
8. Adharapana Niti – 7 July 2025 (Monday)
A sweet drink called Adharapana is offered to the deities. It’s also offered to the celestial beings and spirits believed to accompany the gods during the Yatra.
9. Niladri Bije – 8 July 2025 (Tuesday)
The deities finally return to the sanctum sanctorum of the main temple. A significant ritual called Rasagola Bhog is offered to appease Goddess Lakshmi and end the ceremonial disagreement of Hera Panchami.
10. Chitalagi Amavasya – 24 July 2025 (Thursday)
This is when the deities are decorated with the Chita (ornamental forehead mark). It’s an important part of temple traditions.
11. Rahu Rekha Lagi – 13 August 2025 (Wednesday)
This lesser-known yet significant ritual protects the deities from evil eyes and ensures auspiciousness in the temple.
