Botanical Survey of India (BSI) is hiring for multiple project-based positions at its Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre, including in Great Nicobar Island (GNI). Eligibility Criteria & Job Role Summary

1 – Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

  • Qualification: M.Sc. in Botany/Natural Science with 55% marks
  • Desirable: NET/GATE, field experience in taxonomy, knowledge of flora, GIS, statistics, herbarium skills, technical writing
  • Work: Field surveys, documentation, conservation, invasive species monitoring, germplasm maintenance

2 – Research Associate (RA)

  • Qualification: PhD in Botany/Natural Science with specialization in taxonomy/ecology
  • Desirable: GIS, AI tools, remote sensing, writing skills, field motivation
  • Work: Leading research teams, preparing reports, developing guidelines, monitoring invasive species

3 – Field Assistant

  • Qualification: 12th pass or B.Sc. in Botany or related subject
  • Desirable: Field/lab experience, computer skills, local knowledge (A&N candidates preferred)
  • Work: Support fieldwork, plant collection, nursery assistance, ecological monitoring

4 – Garden Assistant cum MTS

  • Qualification: 10th pass
  • Desirable: 3 years of garden or related work experience
  • Work: Assist in plant collection, germplasm propagation, nursery/garden upkeep

5- Data Entry Operator cum Accountant

  • Qualification: Graduate in Commerce or Diploma in Accounting/Data Entry
  • Desirable: 3 years’ experience in accounts, records, computer operations
  • Work: Budget handling, project accounts, data entry, report filing

Place of Posting

  • Primary Location: Great Nicobar Island, Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre
  • Additional: Dhanikhari Botanical Garden, BSI (for some posts)

Be prepared for fieldwork in remote tropical conditions.

Q1. Who can apply for JRF/RA posts?
Anyone with a valid M.Sc./PhD in Botany/Natural Sciences and relevant research experience.

Q2. What is the work location?
Most roles are based in Great Nicobar Island. Be ready for fieldwork in remote forested areas.

Q3. Do I need NET qualification for JRF?
Not mandatory. NET/GATE candidates will receive a higher stipend.

Q4. What’s the selection process?
